How to Change the Carrier Name On Your iPhone

If jailbreaking an iPhone alone does not make you happy enough and you are looking to pimp your iPhone much more, how about changing your carrier name?

Here is a short guide that will help you customize the carrier name that is displayed on status bar of your iPhone.

Requirements

Before you start, please note that this guide only works on iPhone OS 3.0 or above. Also, you need to have a jailbroken iPhone with Cydia installed. If you have not jailbroken your iPhone yet, click here for the jailbreaking guide.

Instructions to Change Carrier Name

Step 1: Tap on the Cydia icon on the Springboard to launch the application.

Step 2: The carrier name is changed with the help of an app called 'FakeCarrier'. Tap on the 'Search' option in Cydia and type 'Fakecarrier' to find the app.

Step 3: Select the app by tapping on the name and click on 'Install'. Follow the instructions to install the app. Finally, click on 'Return to Cydia' to finish installation.

Step 4: Once the installation is completed, you will be able to find a 'Carrier' icon on the iPhone Home Screen. Tap on the 'Carrier' icon to launch the FakeCarrier application.

Step 5: You are now given three options - 'Fake Carrier', 'Fake Time' and 'Show BatteryLevel'. Tap on the 'Fake Carrier' option to change the carrier name.

Step 6: You are now prompted to enter your Carrier text. Enter the text of your choice and tap on 'Set'.

Step 7: Similarly, you may replace the time banner on top with your customer text using the 'Fake Time' option. Tap on 'Set' to confirm the change.

That's all, the carrier name on your iPhone should change to the one of your choice. Please note that if you would at any point like to get back to the default Carrier and Time text, you may follow the same steps and at the final text input, tap on 'Reset' to get the text back to default.

Please let us know how it goes.

Multi-tasking A la Palm Pre On iPhone With Multifl0w Jailbreak App

One of the most popular app among jailbroken iPhone users is Backgrounder - the free app that allows you to multitask; a feature almost omnipresent among smartphones but something that remains unavailable for iPhone users till date.

Now here is another iPhone app that improvises on Backgrounder to create a better multitasking experience (think Palm Pre).

Backgrounder lets you open multiple applications and also helps in identifying all these iPhone apps running in the background with a badge. With mutifl0w, you may additionally slide through all the open apps and easily toggle between them. Double-tapping your iPhone home button takes you to the multifl0w screen where all the open apps are displayed. Tapping on an iPhone app displays it in full screen for you to work on while the other apps continue to run in the background. It helps if you are on iPhone 3GS since the higher RAM capacity means you can toggle between lot more iPhone apps.

The app is already available on Rock and should also be available on Cydia soon. While you do have a free trial, the jailbreak iPhone app costs $4.99, which we feel is slightly higher considering that the base app Backgrounder and the other popular multitasking app for jailbroken iPhones, Kirikae are both free.

Nevertheless, $5 is still a small price to pay for such a valuable utility denied for quite sometime by Apple as running multiple applications could drain your iPhone's battery quickly. If you have downloaded multifl0w, please don't forget to tell us your experience.

A new iPod Shuffle

Apple Inc. introduced a new iPod Shuffle that is about half the size of its previous model but with the capacity to play twice as many songs, as the company tries to re-energize its iPod business.
The new $79 four-gigabyte device will play as many as 1,000 songs, the same as the first iPod, which sold for $399 in 2001. The new model will allow users to switch between multiple playlists, which wasn't possible with previous models.

It also includes a new voice feature that announces songs and playlists in 14 languages. One of the key differences from the previous Shuffle is that all of the controls are now on the earphone cord rather than on the device. The new Shuffle comes just a week after the company updated its Macintosh desktop computers and amid widespread speculation about what new products Apple might introduce this year
